You need to have years of experience and practice before you can become a master mechanic. The best way to learn how to repair cars is by working under the supervision of a professional mechanic.

You'll have to spend time at a garage learning all you can about cars and mechanics. It is important to get familiar with the mechanics of cars and engineering.

Auto school is also required.

The most important thing to do is start early. To learn about automotive technology, don't wait to be older. Start studying automotive technology now to become a mechanic.

What is the job description for a mechanic in a car?

For car mechanics, there are three main areas for employment:

  • Automotive repair shops
  • Dealerships
  • Independent garages

Automotive repair shops

This is where most people first think of becoming a mechanic. This is the best way to get started. You can either work in a shop run by someone else, or start your business.

If you are interested in working at a shop you will need to apply for membership to a union. After being accepted into the union, the union will provide training.

After completing the training, you'll be ready to start work.

If you plan to open your own garage you will need to register with government. After you have registered, you will need to meet certain standards.

When you've registered, you'll be given a license to operate your garage.

Your license will permit you to sell spares parts and perform minor repairs. It will not allow you to repair major engine problems.

In addition to selling spare parts, you'll also be expected to offer advice and guidance to customers.

Dealership jobs

Most dealerships employ mechanics who can specialize in a particular area of the car. For instance, they may only be qualified to fix brakes or change tires.

Some dealers also have general mechanics that can handle all aspects.

Some positions require that applicants complete training before they can be allowed to work. Employers are able to choose which candidates will best suit their position.

Some dealerships even recruit graduates straight from university. These graduates are already familiar with basic mechanics and can therefore learn about cars.

Independent garages

Independent garages aren't associated with any particular dealership. Instead, they tend to focus on providing high-quality service.

Independent garages can pay higher wages because they aren't associated with any company. As a result, these jobs are generally better paid than those at dealerships.

Independent garages can be just as good places to work, but this does not mean they are better. Many business owners prefer to manage their own businesses rather than delegating responsibility to others.

So you may find yourself working long hours without having any say over what happens during the day.

Expect to earn lower salaries than if you were working in a dealership.

You can switch jobs easily. It is possible to switch between different types of jobs if your current employer would prefer you to work at a dealer.

If you prefer to work in an independent garage, you might consider applying directly to its owner.

Unfortunately, finding a new job can be difficult. There are many other factors that can influence your earnings.

Consider, for example, what type of vehicle you are repairing and whether additional labor charges will apply.

What qualifications do I need to be a truck mechanic?

Although you don't need to have any formal qualifications, your experience working with trucks and engines is invaluable. Your experience is invaluable as you know how to diagnose problems quickly and efficiently.

A solid understanding of diesel technology is also a plus. This will help you understand the components that are needed to fix our vehicles.

What are the requirements for an automobile technician?

You must have high school, or GED, and be able to read and write well in English and math. Additionally, you will need to be proficient in reading and writing. To be allowed to work, you must pass a written and practical test.

A technician in automotive must be able diagnose and repair problems quickly, safely, accurately, efficiently, and effectively.

A person who wants to work as an automotive technician should first obtain an associate degree from a vocational school. After completing this program, he/she will need to pass the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence's (ASE) certification exam. ASE stands as American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The ASE certification test consists two sections. The first section tests your mechanical skills, while the second tests your practical knowledge. You will need to attend an authorized testing site in order to pass the test. These locations can be found online or at your local auto dealer.

After passing the exam, a candidate must take a state exam before being licensed as an automobile technician. This process varies depending on where the applicant lives. Some states require applicants to take a training course while others allow them the freedom to study on their own. Some states allow technicians to become licensed right away after receiving their license. While others wait until they have had at least six years of experience as an automotive technician.

Apply to your local dealership to become an automotive technician. Most new employees begin as apprentices once they are hired. Apprenticeships last for three years. A student will learn to repair basic things like changing oil, adjusting brakes or replacing tires. They also learn how spark plugs are cleaned and inspect engine compartments. Some students will learn advanced repair techniques, such as changing shocks, installing air filters, and replacing engines. Most schools offer classes during regular business hours. However, there are some schools that offer evening classes for those who need them.

Once a student is done with his/her apprenticeship he/she can become a master journeyman. Journeymen usually spend four to five year learning how to install major systems like transmissions, differentials steering gear, suspensions, drive shafts, and steering gear. They also learn to perform complex repairs, such as remanufacturing engines, rebuilding transmissions, and troubleshooting electrical components. Many employers prefer to hire Journeymen because they understand the job well.

Candidates who pass the required exams are eligible for a license. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics (2010), almost 1.7million automotive mechanic jobs were on the market. That number was expected to grow by 18 percent from 2009 to 2020. The candidate should expect to invest thousands of money in equipment and supplies if he/she decides to start his/her shop.

The salary for an automotive technician depends on several factors, including the type of employer, location, education level, and experience. On average, a jobless person could expect to earn $20,000 annually. Someone who has only a highschool diploma could earn around 21,000 dollars per year. Associate's degrees earn approximately $24,000 per annum. A technician with a bachelor's degree earned approximately $27,000 annually. A master's degree earns around $32,000 per a year. Salary increases are common, so a professional who earns less than $30,000 now could reasonably expect to earn $40,000 or more in just a few years.
