Be a mechanic and get a steady paycheck

cool useful gadgets

To provide high-quality service, mechanics need to be meticulous. Typically, they only change oil when a customer brings in a vehicle for service. The mechanic should not do the work unless the customer asks for it. As mechanics often spend long hours standing or lifting heavy objects, they need to have the physical strength to do so. They should be able to lift a vehicle and not become too fatigued.

Fun job of mechanic

Many people enjoy working on cars, so if you have an interest in fixing cars, becoming a mechanic could be a great career choice. It's never boring, and there's plenty of room for advancement. A career as a mechanic will keep you interested and busy for many years. A mechanic's job is not for everyone, though.

Apart from fixing cars, mechanics can also repair a wide range of vehicles. Other than cars, mechanics can also repair cabs, mail trucks and buses. Because there are almost 230,000 motor vehicle repair shops in the country, a mechanic can work anywhere. Depending on the job, mechanics can either live in big cities or small towns. While the salary of mechanics is dependent on their experience, it is usually not too high.

The steady salary for mechanics is a good one

You can earn a steady income by becoming a mobile mechanic. You can work anywhere you like and as independent contractors. While this means that you will work for yourself and set your own hours, you are also responsible for your own expenses. Because mobile mechanics don't work for companies, there are no hours or set schedules. They also have to pay their own mileage and repair costs.

Mechanic salaries are generally affected by the state of the economy, but one factor that may have an impact on the wages you receive depends on your location. Orange County mechanics are paid higher than those working in San Diego. This is because Orange County is the least expensive county in California. This is because luxury cars need a highly skilled mechanic while domestic cars don’t. California mechanics earn higher salaries in California than their counterparts from San Diego or Los Angeles.

They have to be able to take apart major parts for repairs

Mechanics need to have analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of automobile engine components. To repair major parts, mechanics must be able disassemble and reassemble them. They should be able to identify problems and recommend the best way forward. You should not trust a mechanic who can't afford the first repair. You may be surprised to find out that mechanics who work as part replacers charge their customers for it!

They should be able lift heavy objects

Workers no longer have to lift heavy objects but their job still requires good body mechanics. While many companies have developed new technologies to decrease these injuries, mechanics still need to be able to lift heavy objects. Musculoskeletal injuries cost the U.S. economy an estimated $332 billion in 2012 and 2014, and 124 million people sustained one in 2015. They are common workplace injuries resulting from strenuous activities, such as lifting heavy objects.

FAQ

Is it worth being a mechanic.

The answer depends on what you are looking for in life. If money is your goal, then you can answer "yes". But if you are searching for meaning and purpose, then you should not answer this question.

You don't need to be a mechanic if you don't know how. It won't make you wealthy. It will not make you famous. It is unlikely that your life will change.

It would take you years to learn how to do everything correctly. It would be expensive to have your car fixed by someone else. Most people avoid doing this. They find something else to do.

You can make a lot of money if you are looking to do well. But if you want to live a meaningful life, stay away from the mechanic's industry.

You will need patience and perseverance. You will also need to be able fix cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Customers and family members will put pressure on your shoulders to help you succeed. But, you shouldn’t be pressured to make any decisions you aren’t happy with.

It could be a great job choice if you love fixing cars. It is a job you can get a decent salary for and help build your business.

What is the length of an apprenticeship as an automotive mechanic?

It takes approximately three years to complete an automotive mechanic apprenticeship. It includes two years of school and two years as an apprentice. The first year is used to learn all aspects of the trade including safety procedures and theory. You'll also learn how tools can be used safely and efficiently during this year. After you have completed the first year of training, you will be able to spend an additional year on-the job learning different trades. You'll have the opportunity to attend formal courses during these periods too.

The final year of the program is spent gaining qualifications and becoming certified in the field. These include NVQs or National Vocational Qualifications. These are earned after passing exams that cover specific topics in the industry. The HNCs (Higher National Certificates), on the other hand, cover general subjects like customer service and management. City & Guilds certificates may be available for those who are interested in becoming qualified in specific trades.

What is the difference?

Both are related, but they are not the same. An automotive technician maintains cars, while a mechanic repairs them.

A mechanic must have good manual dexterity and be able to perform simple tasks quickly. A mechanic must be able diagnose and fix problems quickly and accurately.

A technician in automotive is more technical than a mechanic. They need to be able use tools such drills and wrenches, and read blueprints.

They should be able safely to perform complex procedures. They must also be familiarized in different types and electrical systems.

They should also be able understand how different parts interact.

This means that mechanics usually make less money than automotive technicians. Both careers have many options.

How To

How to Become an Auto Technician

An automotive technician performs repairs and maintains vehicles. He/she works in car dealerships as well as auto shops, garages, and service centers. He/she repairs cars, trucks, motorbikes and snowmobiles for customers. An automotive technician must be able to diagnose problems and make repairs quickly, safely, accurately, and efficiently.

If you want to be an automotive technician, you need an associate degree from vocational school. After completing this program, he/she must pass the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification exam. ASE stands to American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The ASE certification test consists of two sections. One section tests mechanical knowledge; the second section tests practical skills. To pass the test you must go to one of the authorized testing facilities. These testing sites can be found online and through your local dealer.

After passing the test, a candidate must pass an examination in order to be licensed as an automotive technician. It varies depending on the location of the applicant. For example, some states require candidates to attend a training course, while others allow them to study independently. Some states allow technicians to become licensed right away after receiving their license. While others wait until they have had at least six years of experience as an automotive technician.

To get started as an automotive technician, a person should apply to a local automotive dealership. Most employees who are hired start as apprentices. Apprenticeships last for three years. Students learn basic repair skills such as changing oil and adjusting brakes, changing tires, cleaning spark plugs and inspecting engine compartments. Advanced repairs can be done by some students, including replacing shocks, installing air filters and repairing engines. Most schools offer classes during regular business hours. Some schools offer evening classes, however.

Once a student completes his/her apprenticeship, he/she becomes a journeyman. Journeymen typically spend four to five years learning how to install major systems, such as transmissions, differentials, steering gear, suspensions, and drive shafts. They learn how to do complex repairs such as remanufacturing engines, rebuilding transmissives, and troubleshooting electronic components. Employers prefer to hire journeymen as they are familiar with the job and can anticipate customer needs.

Once a candidate passes the required exams and is granted a license, they might consider opening their own shop. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2010, nearly 1.7 Million automotive mechanic jobs were available. That number was expected to grow by 18 percent from 2009 to 2020. If a candidate decides to open his/her own shop, he/she should prepare to invest many thousands of dollars in equipment and supplies.

Automotive technicians' salaries depend on many factors such as the employer, whereabouts, education level and experience. On average, a jobless person could expect to earn $20,000 annually. Someone who has only a highschool diploma could earn around 21,000 dollars per year. Those with an associate's degree earned approximately $24,000 per year. Technicians with a bachelor’s degree made about $27,000 annually. Master's degree holders make around $32,000 annually. Salary increases can be common. A professional who earns less that $30,000 today could reasonably expect a $40,000 increase in the next few decades.
